If you use Google Chrome or Firefox or Opera as your browser, there is a free extension that will automatically encrypt your communications with many major websites, making your browsing more secure.
Once you install the extension, it automatically switches thousands of sites from insecure “http” to secure “https.”
The extension is called “HTTPS Everywhere”. And of course, the final S stands for Secure.
It will protect you against many forms of surveillance and account hijacking, and some forms of censorship.
How to get it (if you use Chrome, as I do)
Click on the 3 dots at the top right of your Chrome screen. Open Settings. Open Extensions. At the bottom of the page, click “Get more extensions.” In the search box, enter: https everywhere.
Not a Chrome user?
Then go here to download it from the creators: https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere
